What is Applied Behavior Analysis?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a therapy based on the science of learning and behavior. ABA is commonly practiced as a therapeutic intervention for individuals diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). ABA helps individuals improve social interactions, learn new skills and maintain positive behaviors. ABA therapy applies the understanding of how behavior works to real-life situations.

ABA at Roots is fun and based within the context of naturally occurring activities, such as those that happen during play and at home. Socially significant skills are broken down into easy-to-learn steps and taught systematically, ensuring each child is successful every step of the way. Throughout intervention, data is recorded and analyzed in order to show progress of meaningful change and to evaluate, modify and refine treatment for the most socially significant outcomes.

The program focuses on all areas of development, from the acquisition of self-help skills to socialization with peers. All programs are individualized to meet each child's specific needs and pace of learning, with specific goals for:

  • Learning Readiness

  • Speech, Language and Communication

  • Play Skills

  • Social/Emotional Skills

  • Functional Motor Skills (fine and gross)

  • Behavior Management

  • Daily Living Skills
